For more than 20 years I was a supervisor and project manager at the nation's second-largest utility, serving about 15 million people. I supervised a team of construction support analysts on projects with multimillion dollar annual revenue impacts, challenging project scopes, tight schedules with even tighter budgets, and led the build-out of the first Tesla Superchargers and commercial EV charging stations in the company's Southern California territory.

So I know what happens when a company promotes its best people and hope they'll figure out the leading part on their own. I've watched sharp, dependable people step into the lead role and suddenly manage the same folks they used to sit next to. They knew the work better than anyone, and nobody had shown them how to lead a team that didn't do it their way.

I've seen what happens when great performers get promoted and nobody teaches them how to lead. Feedback turns into instructions, the hard conversations get put off, and the one-day training everyone loved is forgotten by the next week. So I built a personal & professional leadership development, first for the frontline leaders and staff in my department and later became the Curriculum Director and Faculty Chair for one of its employee resource groups.

I've led the team and I've trained the leaders, and I bring both into every session.
